Baby-parenting.com:"Baby-parenting.com was born in Ireland in 2001 out of the frustration of our founders who couldn't find a single jargon-free resource in either the real world or in cyberspace. They had many questions on conception, the pregnancy months and after the birth. But they realised that they would have to spend a large amount of time sifting through different providers of information. This was time consuming and stressful. When other people felt the same way the foundation for the Baby-parenting.com Infomediary was laid." ******************************************************

The Effectiveness of Prenatal and Early Childhood Home Visits by Nurses Versus Paraprofessionals, clinicaltrials.gov:"In a previous trial, a nurse-visitor program and a paraprofessional-visitor program were compared to determine long-term effectiveness in providing prenatal and infancy care. The nurse-visitor program improved the quality of life for both mothers and their children, while the paraprofessional-visitor program produced smaller, inconsistent, and less significant effects. Recent evidence from a 4-year follow-up now suggests that the beneficial effects of paraprofessional visits may increase as children mature.
Mothers and their children who were enrolled in a trial that compared home visits by nurses and paraprofessionals are contacted as the children complete kindergarten at age 6. Assessments are made through interviews given to mothers and standardized tests given to children. Mothers and their children are also observed interacting with one another." ******************************************************

Did you know that in 1990, American businesses spent an estimated $5.6 billion on health care costs for poor birth outcomes? At Wellmark, we understand the impact that health care costs can have on a company’s bottom line. That’s why we offer programs like Better Beginnings. Better Beginnings is designed to help identify maternal risks for complications early in the pregnancy. The program is tailored to the needs of each enrolled member by providing the appropriate education and care management before and at each state of pregnancy.
The Better Beginnings program is divided into two segments: preconception and prenatal. With both segments, the Better Beginnings nurses, who are trained in obstetrical care, will be a helpful and familiar resource. At preconception, the nurse will help the member determine lifestyle changes to consider for a healthy pregnancy. Nurses will help prenatal participants identify potential concerns that may be associated with the pregnancy." ******************************************************
