What type of business or categories under which you would like to be listed:
Phone number: business: 608-449-4680
In what date (month/year) did you start your business?: 9/2004
What kind of nursing do you do?: graduated nursing school 1986, have worked mainly Emergency Room (ER) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since.
How did you hear about the Nurse Entrepreneur Homesite?: found it while browsing the net
How many years have you been practicing as a nurse: 18
Professional organizations you belong to: Emergency Nursing Association, ENA, NAIN
What made you decide to start your own business?: I have worked for an agency off and on for 10 years and finally decided I did not want someone taking a cut of what I made.
Employment changes in career?: 5
What specific qualities and traits do you feel make nurses especially qualified to operate a business?: We are professionals who should take control of our careers. Nurses in general are intelligent and pay attention to detail. I went back to school for an MBA to help with the details of business.
Where do you work?: I work in an Emergency Room part time, and work for an agency doing ER and ICU.
Your most pressing concerns with the profession and healthcare: My most pressing concern is putting inexperienced nurses in critical care fresh out of college. They lack the experience necessary to work these areas. When we get a trauma in they panic and puts the patient and other nurses at risk. The saying a nurse is a nurse is a nurse is not true. Areas of nursing are to specialized and nurses need adequate training. The shortage of nurses has put the emphasis on filling vacancy's with anyone with a license.
Other areas of interest and expertise: ER and ICU

Should You Incorporate Your Registry Business? By Joseph Caracci, RN:"The short answer is yes! When starting a new nurse registry business, you are entering into a legal business environment that requires you to take steps to protect your personal assets, such as your home, your savings, and your retirement. With this in mind, you need to determine which legal form you are going to take for your new registry. Some of the common choices are a sole proprietorship, a partnership, a limited liability partnership (LLP), a limited liability company (LLC), and a corporation."
