Department of Nursing,
The University of Tennessee at Martin *****************************************************
The University of Texas at Austin / School
of Nursing (BSN, MSN, PhD):"The School of Nursing offers undergraduate
students a dynamic course of study that is
both theoretical and practical. The theory
insures a solid foundation necessary to handle
changes in the health care system. The practical
training enables graduates to function in
a wide variety of settings. Clinical instruction
at UT meets or exceeds the Texas State Board
of Nurse Examiners' standards for student-teacher
ratios. Generally, only 10 students are assigned
to each clinical instructor because this
ratio provides an optimal level of support
and supervision. Originally accredited by
the National League for Nursing from its
inception in 1953, the undergraduate and
master's programs are fully accredited by
the Comission on Collegiate Nursing Education."
University of Texas at El Paso / School of
Nursing (BSN, MSN, DSN):"It is a great time to be a nurse!! But never
in the 28 year history of the School of Nursing
has the need for nurses been more pressing.
The need for baccalaureate-prepared nurses,
nurse practitioners, nurse educators, and
nurse administrators has never been greater,
and the UTEP School of Nursing is well positioned
to meet this mission. In the past two years
alone we have increased our grants from around
$1.7 to over $8 million in funding. We have
increased our undergraduate enrollment, and
expanded the number of graduate programs
to help meet this need for more nurses."
University of Texas / Health Science Center
at Houston (BSN, MSN, DNS):"Established in 1972, The University of Texas
School of Nursing at Houston is ranked in
the top ten percent of nursing schools in
the country. Our campus is located in the
Texas Medical Center, and School of Nursing
students enjoy the resources of a distinguished
Health Science Center combined with the expertise
of the world's largest medical center. Our
school offers a broad range of course work
resulting in BSN, MSN, or DSN degrees. We
also provide a wide variety of settings in
which students and faculty can study, conduct
research, and participate in clinical practice."
University of Texas Medical Branch /
School of Nursing (BSN, MSN, PhD):"The School of Nursing at the University of
Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB)
awarded 192 bachelor's degrees and 59 master's
degrees during commencement ceremonies on
April 22.UTMB President Dr. John D. Stobo
and School of Nursing Dean Dr. Pamela Watson
presided over the ceremonies, held at Moody
Gardens in Galveston. It was the School of
Nursing's 118th commencement."
University of Texas at Tyler / College of
Nursing (BSN, MSN):"Baccalaureate education prepares students
to practice as generalists. This level of
education is based on core knowledge and
clinical competency, applied through a unique
blend of critical thinking and human caring
in multiple settings. Health promotion, risk
reduction, and disease management are the
focus of the care provided. Graduate education
is built upon the baccalaureate educational
core elements, and enhances strong critical
thinking and decision-making skills. The
nurse with a master's degree is prepared
as a visionary leader and manager to assume
advanced roles in a variety of settings.
Graduates are prepared to promote evolving
practice patterns based on global perspectives,
which requires a deep understanding of moral
and ethical responsibility, human diversity,
and social issues. Masters prepared nurses
initiate and use research findings to enhance
outcomes in their advanced practice settings.
A sophisticated knowledge base of health
care policy, organization, and financing
is blended with the realities of the changing
practice environment."
University of the Incarnate Word / School
of Nursing (BSN, RN to BSN, MSN):"The Nursing Program at the University of
the Incarnate Word offers a generic baccalaureate
nursing program (BSN) for students wishing
to become registered nurses, an accelerated
baccalaureate program (RN-BSN) for registered
nurses who wish to earn a BSN, and a Masters
program (MSN) for nurses who wish to advance
their level of practice. The generic BSN
program prepares graduates to take the licensure
examination to become a Registered Nurse.
The BSN program is planned as a five-semester
program with 130 credits of study. Our program
is approved by the Board of Nurse Examiners
for the State of Texas and fully accredited
by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
The pass rate of our graduates on the licensure
examination is consistently above the pass
rate for the state."
University of Toledo / Nursing Program (ADN,
BSN):"The Associate Degree Nursing Program prepares
the student to take the national licensure
examination for a registered nurse (R.N.)
and to assume a beginning staff nurse position
in a health-care agency. The curriculum contains
courses in nursing; general education; biological,
physical and social sciences; and humanities,
which are fundamental to understanding the
concepts of nursing care. Experiences in
the clinical area and the college laboratory
are an integral part of the nursing program. "
