in the 28 year history of the School of Nursing
has the need for nurses been more pressing.
The need for baccalaureate-prepared nurses,
nurse practitioners, nurse educators, and
nurse administrators has never been greater,
and the UTEP School of Nursing is well positioned
to meet this mission. In the past two years
alone we have increased our grants from around
$1.7 to over $8 million in funding. We have
increased our undergraduate enrollment, and
expanded the number of graduate programs
to help meet this need for more nurses."

Department (BSN, MSN):"The Nursing Department offers two programs:
a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master
of Science in Nursing. Each program is fully
accredited from the Board of Nurse Examiners
for the State of Texas. The Bachelor of Science
in Nursing (BSN) for registered nurses was
established in 1983, and the generic BSN
program was initiated in Spring 1992. The
Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) program
with a clinical specialization in adult health
was approved in 1993 and admitted its first
students during Summer 1994. The MSN program
has since added Family Practitioner and Pediatric
Nurse Practitioner tracks. Both the BSN
and MSN programs are accredited by the Commission

University of the Incarnate Word / School
of Nursing (BSN, RN to BSN, MSN):"The Nursing Program at the University of
the Incarnate Word offers a generic baccalaureate
nursing program (BSN) for students wishing
to become registered nurses, an accelerated
baccalaureate program (RN-BSN) for registered
nurses who wish to earn a BSN, and a Masters
program (MSN) for nurses who wish to advance
their level of practice. The generic BSN
program prepares graduates to take the licensure
examination to become a Registered Nurse.
The BSN program is planned as a five-semester
program with 130 credits of study. Our program
is approved by the Board of Nurse Examiners
for the State of Texas and fully accredited
by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
The pass rate of our graduates on the licensure
examination is consistently above the pass
rate for the state."

programs have a distinguished history. The
programs have existed 60 and 52 years, respectively
and together have more than 6,000 alumni.
Until 2002 the programs were housed in the
former Schools of Nursing and Allied Health
Sciences. Those two small Schools were consolidated
into a single academic unit, the College
