Nursing School Waiting Lists
3 Year waiting period, is there other options?:"Over the last few days I checked around with friends that are doing and enjoying nursing, male and female. So, I planned to start enrolling somewhere, I call the local community college and there is a 3 YEAR WAIT to even start the program and then 5 semesters of clinicals.

NEW RN & Hate it already, Ultimatenurse.com:"I need some advice. I am a new RN of only 4months. I work on a cardiac step down floor in a michigan hospital. I have always wanted to be a nurse, ever since I was in 2nd grade. I knew there was a staffing shortage and that it would be hardwork. However I never thought 4 months after achieving my dream and starting my career I would already hate it. SInce I have started my job 9 nurses, on my floor alone, have quit. We constantly work short staffed and nurses are always calling in. I should also mention I work midnights. I love being a nurse and I am very disappointed at the way i feel. I don't want to leave nursing or the health profession but I don't know what to do. Everyday I go to work I am nervous and constantly feel that my license is in jepordy."

Nursing shortages make colleges get creative in training RNs, Canada: February 4, 2009:"Canada's nursing shortage has reached what many are calling critical proportions, with all levels of government, educational institutes and professional associations throwing money and time into creative solutions. According to Rachel Bard, CEO of the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA), colleges and institutes have responded to the issue. "They've increased the output of nursing programs from 4,833 graduates in 1999 to 9,447 in 2007. That's an increase of 95.5 per cent."

The report deals with a potential crisis that may seriously affect all New Yorkers in the next few years - the nursing shortage. Nursing Spectrum, A Lesson in Kindness, Kelly Maher Morrissey, RN, MSN, :"The ED appeared relatively calm on Sunday morning as I arrived to work my 8-hour shift. I received report on two patients; both sounded clinically stable. One patient, Dominic,* was particularly memorable. Dominic was an 87-year-old man who had been transported from a nursing home to the emergency department (ED) at about 4 AM for symptoms including a 104F fever and chest congestion. He was evaluated, diagnosed with pneumonia, and admitted. During report, the departing night nurse indicated that Dominic was oriented to person only and had been agitated since arrival."
