Henrico County Public Schools / St. Mary's
Hospital School of Practical Nursing:"The program is eighteen (18) months in length.
The first nine months constitute Practical
Nursing I and is taught at Hermitage Technical
Center from 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 12:30
p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. Senior
students attend their home school for half
of each school day and the technical center
for the other half day. Adults attend either
the morning or afternoon session, depending
on senior students' enrollment. Practical
Nursing II, or the last nine months, is full-time,
7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday - Friday. Students
gain clinical experience in a variety of
community settings and at Bon Secours St.

Heroin, Iowa Department of Public Safety:"Heroin is a Scheduled I controlled substance. Years ago, thoughts of using a needle kept many potential heroin users at bay. Not anymore. Today's heroin is so pure, users can smoke it or snort it, causing more kids under 18 to use it. Kids who snort or smoke heroin face the same high risk of overdose and death that haunts intravenous users. Yet 40% of high school seniors polled do not believe there is great risk in trying heroin.
Recent studies suggest a shift from injecting to snorting or smoking heroin because of increased purity and the misconception that these forms of use will not lead to addiction."

Hidden advantages for men in nursing. Williams CL. Nurs Adm Q. 1995 Winter;19(2):63-70.:"Men comprise a small minority of professional nurses in the United States. Yet men in nursing earn more money than women on average, and they are overrepresented in administration and other prestigious specialties. This article explores the hidden advantages for men in the profession, focusing on (1) hiring and promotions, (2) relationships with physicians and colleagues, and (3) relationships with patients. Data from in-depth interviews with male nurses throughout the United States are used to demonstrate that cultural and social stereotypes about masculinity pressure men into some of the best-paying and most prestigious nursing specialties. Administrators are encouraged to develop more gender-sensitive criteria for evaluating performance that reward both reputedly "masculine" and "feminine" qualities."
