Omeprazole (Prilosec), About Prilosec, Priloseconline:"PRILOSEC is generally well tolerated, but it is not for everybody. The most common side effects are headache, diarrhea, and abdominal pain." ******************************************************
Omeprazole, Description, Medline plus:"Omeprazole (o-MEP-ra-zole) is used to treat certain conditions in which there is too much acid in the stomach. It is used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease, a condition in which the acid in the stomach washes back up into the esophagus. Sometimes omeprazole is used in combination with antibiotics to treat ulcers associated with infection caused by the H. pylori bacteria (germ)." ******************************************************
Omeprazole, Proper Use, WebMD:”Take omeprazole capsules immediately before a meal, preferably in the morning. Omeprazole tablets may be taken with food or on an empty stomach. It may take several days before this medicine begins to relieve stomach pain. To help relieve this pain, antacids may be taken with omeprazole, unless your doctor has told you not to use them." ******************************************************
Omeprazole, Role Of Omeprazole In Eradication Of Helicobacter Pylori With One-Week Triple Therapies, Gastroenterology 1999; 116:248-53: "The results from the MACH2 study confirming the high eradication rates reported in the MACH1 study show that omeprazole acts synergistically with the 2 tested pairs of antimicrobials and that, by adding omeprazole, primary resistance to clarithromycin and metronidazole can be partially overcome. Metronidazole resistance, however, is not an issue using OAC, which may be clinically relevant in areas of high metronidazole resistance". ******************************************************
Omeprazole, Healthwell:"Omeprazole is a member of the proton pump inhibitor family of drugs, which blocks production of stomach acid. Omeprazole is used to treat diseases in which stomach acid causes damage, including gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease, erosive esophagitis, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome." ******************************************************
Omeprazole, How is it best taken, Integrative Medicine:”Take 30 minutes before eating. Swallow capsule whole. Do not chew, break, or crush. For patients who cannot swallow capsule, open capsule and sprinkle granules on 1 tablespoon of applesauce and swallow without chewing granules. For patients who have feeding tubes, open capsule and mix with 3 tablespoonfuls of apple juice to administer. Flush the feeding tube before and after medicine administration." ******************************************************
Omeprazole(Prilosec), Pharmaceuticals, Molecular Expressions:"Omeprazole is a member of a new class of antisecretory compounds termed the substituted benzimidazoles that act by inhibition of the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells. Drugs inhibiting this enzyme system are often referred to as Proton Pump Inhibitors. The drug is primarily used in patients who have gastroesophageal reflux disease and in combination therapy for the cure of Helicobacter pylori. Omeprazole is also useful for the treatment and prevention of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)-related gastroduodenal disease and peptic ulcer disease. Side effects include back and stomach pain, nausea, and skin rash." ******************************************************
Omeprazole, Indications, Rxlist:"Omeprazole delayed-release capsules are indicated for short-term treatment of active duodenal ulcer. Most patients heal within four weeks. Some patients may require an additional four weeks of therapy.Omeprazole delayed-release capsules, in combination with clarithromycin, are also indicated for the treatment of patients with H. pylori infection and active duodenal ulcer to eradicated H. pylori." ****************************************************** ****************************************************** ******************************************************
