About Psychotherapy, Bennett Pologe, Ph.D.:"Welcome to About Psychotherapy (or "counseling" if you prefer). My goal in creating this site was to explain psychotherapy in clear and accessible language -- to demystify the whole subject, without trivializing it. In reading through these pages, you can learn about depression, phobias, anxiety, obsession, attention deficit, learning disability, and a host of other related issues; there are also sections on behavior therapy, children and adolescents, couples, biofeedback, and many more. Primarily, though, you will come away understanding psychotherapy: What it is, how it works, why go, why stop (and when), and what should and should not happen there." ******************************************************

American Group Psychotherapy Association:"Welcome to the American Group Psychotherapy Association’s website. Our organization is an interdisciplinary community that has been enhancing practice, theory and research of group therapy since 1942. AGPA provides the support you are looking for to enhance your work as a mental healthcare professional or your life as a member of a therapeutic group." ******************************************************
American Journal of Psychotherapy (AJP):"Founded in 1939, the American Journal of Psychotherapy (AJP) has long been a leader in the publication of eclectic articles for all psychotherapists. Transtheoretic in reach (offering information for psychotherapists across all theoretical foundations), the goal of AJP is to present an overview of the psychotherapies, subsuming a host of schools, techniques, and psychological modalities within the larger domain of clinical practice under broad themes including dynamic, behavioral, spiritual, and experiential.
The Journal offers varying viewpoints on the "who, when, why, and how" of psychotherapy. The Journal also serves as a conceptual bridge using the developmental process to reconcile major psychotherapeutic paradigms of the past and present." ******************************************************
Effectiveness of Psychotherapy, The Consumer Reports Study, American Psychologist:"Consumer Reports (1995, November) published an article which concluded that patients benefited very substantially from psychotherapy, that long-term treatment did considerably better than short-term treatment, and that psychotherapy alone did not differ in effectiveness from medication plus psychotherapy. Furthermore, no specific modality of psychotherapy did better than any other for any disorder; psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers did not differ in their effectiveness as treaters; and all did better than marriage counselors and long-term family doctoring. Patients whose length of therapy or choice of therapist was limited by insurance or managed care did worse. The methodological virtues and drawbacks of this large-scale survey are examined and contrasted with the more traditional efficacy study, in which patients are randomized into a manualized, fixed duration treatment or into control groups. I conclude that the Consumer Reports survey complements the efficacy method, and that the best features of these two methods can be combined into a more ideal method that will best provide empirical validation of psychotherapy." ******************************************************

BACP - British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy:"The British Association for Counselling grew out of the Standing Conference for the Advancement of Counselling, the SCAC being inaugurated in 1970 with the help of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations. It was, at this time, the only organisation linking together counselling agencies, professional associations of counsellors and those helping professions whose members had long practised as counsellors. Soon after SCAC was established, a directory of local counselling services and a code of ethics were produced - valuable services that we have continued right to the present day. BAC was founded in 1977 in response to increasing demand for more focus on individual members. Its headquarters relocated from London to Rugby in 1978, funded by grants from the Government’s Voluntary Services Unit. On becoming the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy in September 2000, the Association recognised its representation of a very wide range of disciplines within a single therapy body. The name change also acknowledges the Association's strong wish to unite the profession in the face of the exciting challenges ahead." ******************************************************
British Association of Psychotherapists:"The British Association of Psychotherapists (BAP) specialises in individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy for adults, adolescents and children and is one of the foremost psychoanalytic psychotherapy training organisations in the country. The BAP, founded in 1951, is the longest established psychoanalytic psychotherapy association in Britain and, with over 500 members nationwide, is one of the largest.
The Association uniquely brings together psychotherapists with different theoretical traditions, offering intensive clinical work and professional trainings in both Jungian Analytic and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy for both Adults and Children and Adolescents." ******************************************************
International Journal of Psychopathology, Psychopharmacology, and Psychotherapy (IJPPP):"The International Journal of Psychopathology, Psychopharmacology, and Psychotherapy (IJPPP) is devoted to the reduction of human suffering by promoting a better understanding of psychiatric disorders and by improving the treatment of individuals who suffer from such disorders.
Published by PsyCom.Net, the IJPPP was founded with the encouragement and support of the subscribers to PsyCom.Net's Psychopharmacology, Psychotherapy, and Neuropsych forums. PsyCom.Net is affiliated with InterPsych, the international on-line mental health organization founded in 1994 by Ian Pitchford." ******************************************************
Journal of Psychotherapy Practice and Research:"JPPR ceased publication with its Fall 2001, Volume 10, number 4 issue. The Journal of Psychotherapy Practice and Research presented original research and clinical reports related to psychotherapy research and education, cognitive and behavioral treatment of selected disorders, integration of multiple treatment modalities, and descriptions of new techniques and educational methodologies." ******************************************************

Society for Existential Analysis:"The aim of The Society for Existential Analysis is to provide a forum for
the expression of views and the exchange of ideas between those interested
in the analysis of existence from philosophical and psychological
perspectives.
Particular emphasis is given to the application of existential and
phenomenological ideas to the field of counselling and psychotherapy.
Most of the Society's members are counsellors, psychotherapists,
philosophers or students and come from across the world.
The Society was founded in 1988 at the initiation of Emmy van Deurzen and
has since attracted considerable interest and respect in the United Kingdom
and abroad." ******************************************************
Society for Psychotherapy Research (SPR):"The Society for Psychotherapy Research (SPR) is an international, interdisciplinary organisation dedicated to the scientific study of psychotherapy in all of its various forms. There are currently four regional chapters (North America, South America, Europe, England) and over 1,000 members world-wide. The organisation meets annually to exchange information among psychotherapy researchers from around the world." ******************************************************
UK Council for Psychotherapy:"The UKCP’s purpose is to promote the art and science of psychotherapy for the public benefit; to promote research and education in psychotherapy and disseminate the results of any such research; and to promote (or assist in the promotion, preservation and protection of public health by encouraging) high standards of training and practice in psychotherapy and the wider provision of psychotherapy for the public.
The National Register of Psychotherapists is published annually, and only psychotherapists who meet the training requirements of UKCP and abide by its ethical guidelines are included.
The Council has as its members the great majority of reputable psychotherapy organisations in the UK and welcomes applications from new organisations which are rigorously scrutinised. The Royal College of Psychiatrists and the British Psychological Society are Special Members of the Council." ****************************************************** ****************************************************** ****************************************************** Nursing Topics, A to Z: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, K L, M, N, O, P, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z

Nurses' Station:"The idea for the Nurses' Station Catalog was conceived in 1989. After searching the marketplace in response to customer inquiries, it became obvious that there were no catalogs of this type serving the nursing profession. To be sure, there were several catalogs offering nurse's uniforms and a smattering of professional items. But there weren't any catalogs at the time offering a range of gifts, clothing, professional items, name badges, shoes and scrubs for nurses. It took two years of hard work to gather samples and put a together a catalog of the most unique and high-quality items for nurses."
